What Can YOU Do for the Flu?

Fevers, aches, sore throats and coughs – oh my ! What can Homeopathy do for YOU if the flu happens to bite?

Homeopathy Delaware’s January meeting was presented by Christine Mercante who led us through stories of kids and adults with flu.  It is important to know that Homeopathy treats people with the flu, not just the symptoms of the flu.  Christine’s explanations of how each person’s unique symptoms created a picture of a different remedy were very helpful.

Discussion of several remedies and how to know which one to use included, among others: Arsenicum, Belladonna, Baptisia, Bryonia, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Gelsemium, Mercurius, Rhus toxicodendron.

Christine noted that during the flu pandemic of 1918, Gelsemium was the remedy most often needed to cure. Homeopathy has a well documented history of having saved so many during the pandemic. The mortality rate documented by doctors treating people with homeopathy was 1.05 % and the rate with “old school” practices was 30%.

When many people in a region come down with a contagious disease such as the flu, homeopathic practitioners are able to see the pattern of similar symptoms among the group and prescribe from just a few remedies which will cure the majority of sufferers.

We call these few remedies the Genus Epidemicus remedies. Gelsemium was the most used G E remedy in the 1918 flu pandemic and continues to be an important remedy for the flu when the Gelsemium picture matches the symptoms of the person.

To get a handle on how a person who needs Gelsemium could feel and what other remedies are curative for people with ‘what’ flu symptoms, click this link to listen to the short flu video by homeopath, Dr. Larry Malerba. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCs83f9QVvg

You can access current information about what remedies are helping people with what symptoms of flu or flu like illness by clicking the provided link to the Paul Herscu N.D., MPH website.   http://paulherscuepidemics.blogspot.com.

Most health food stores will carry the remedies you need. Others may be ordered on line from pharmacies which make homeopathic remedies. It is wise to have a few on hand.

And if the flu bites, you will be ready to try one of the best indicated remedies. You will feel better fast, your recovery time will be shortened and you will be far less likely to endure weeks of post flu coughing or worse sequela.

Do remember that good food, clean living, rest and exercise are the basic ingredients to wellness. In addition, certain nutrients have been shown to help enhance the immune system, such as echinacea, vitamins C, E and beta carotene, zinc, and elderberries.

Do join us the first Wednesday in February for our presentation of homeopathy for First Aid.

The National Center for Homeopathy is the premiere consumer information, education and advocacy center for Homeopathy in the United States. Please see their comprehensive website for webinars, archived articles, research studies, and more at http://www.homeopathycenter.org.

Thank you Chris for presenting our lesson on Flu like symptoms. Thank you also for the handouts. They are always helpful.
Thank you to all the people that attended. Our study group and for the other coordinators, Barbara, Elle, and Alfreen.
Every time I attend our meetings I also learn at list one piece of new information even if it’s a subject we have had in the past.

Barbara, I couldn’t make the meeting on colds and flu. I can I get a copy of the material handed out at that meeting?

The flu is moving west to east through PA. It is a “B” ? form and may be covered only 40-50? of the flu shot. I don’t remember the exact percentage, but it wasn’t 100% for those who got the flu shot. Many adults and children have died so far.

    Thank you, Anne Marvin
